Loving Vincent Review

Loving Vincent is a story that takes place just after Vincent Van Gogh's death that is told entirely through oil paintings. You heard me right. Every single frame is an oil painting. This is the big draw of the movie, but I wasn't sure if the rest of the movie would be as good as the concept. It is. The art style is jarring for the first twenty minutes of the film but quickly becomes charming and calming. When I say calming, don't think it holds back. It doesn't. It depicts very heart wrenching scenes of suicide and murder. If it doesn't show it, it describes it. You might think that might take away from the emotional weight of the scenes, but the characters that describe their ideas of what happened to Vincent are some of the most engaging characters of the year. I have stayed away from the plot because that's how I want people to go in. This is my favorite movie of the year thus far. It will take a hell of a movie to bump it off.

A+
